In the early 1900's, Joseph Pilates developed a series of body transforming exercises on the mat and equipment (which he invented) to strengthen the center, lengthen the spine, increase body awareness, build muscle tone and gain flexibility. The Pilates Method develops strong abdominal and postural muscles to support the skeletal system and act as the "powerhouse" of the body. A strong center helps alleviate back pain, prevents injury, and improves performance in all aspects of life. The training effect is more than physical as clients become more flexible, confident, and relaxed.
